Dual Control Systems in Australia

January 12, 2019

Dual Control systems, also known as Dynamic Attendant Control Modules, are systems attached to cars allowing both the passenger or user and the attendant to control the car. This system enables the user to switch between who can operate the car's speed, direction, and the brakes. The system operates in such a way that a simple button can shift the control of the car from a user to the attendant or vice versa. The dual control systems in Australia are becoming extremely common as the demand for vehicles accommodating people with special needs continues to grow. This is one of the many innovative technologies making way into this industry to improve the experience of people with special needs.

The system generally has two different controlling panels, one below the adjacent side of the driving seat and the other with the passenger seat next to the driver where an attendant can easily reach and operate. The panels in control of the attendant are not very different from those available for the driver. The switch or the lever in the car switches the car from one controller option to the other, this means that a user or the passenger can switch the button and change the settings to the attendant control and the autonomy over speed and direction will entirely be with the attendant. Even though the accelerators and brakes may not work anymore, the user can still see the speed, battery timing and operate all the other functions of their vehicle.

The dual control system is an important and essential innovation in the industry because it is aimed at making travel much more comfortable and flexible. People with special needs and different abilities can have a much smoother commute with the help of this system rather than constantly having to control it. Most of the cars with attached dual control panel systems tend to be extremely lightweight and thus do not increase the weight of their cars very much making it much suitable for the overall functioning of the car.

In simple words, dual controls are just additional features of driving controls which help the main functions of the vehicle like clutch, brake or accelerator to be controlled by the person who is sitting in the passenger seat position and they are widely used to teach someone to drive as well. The dual control systems are a great back up function in case the driver loses the control of the vehicle, it is also used to prevent the people to be in harmful situations.

The dual controls can be installed in every kind of vehicle. Most of the hardware that is used is not visible except the pedals. The dual controls are very easy to remove, and they can be put back easily too. When the pedals are removed, the wiring does not have to be disconnected also all the systems include adjustable pedal height and pedals can be released quickly. The person sitting on the passenger seat can control the vehicle pedals to take control or provide a demonstration to the learner driver. They are quite economical, reusable and these controls can be used in a different vehicle as well, usually with only cable renewal required.

It is integral for driving schools where people have just started learning allowing both the learner and teacher to control the car simultaneously. New learners may not be able to control their vehicles sufficiently and they can be essential components to ensure safety and security of those in the car. Therefore, the dual control system allows the teacher to assist the learner in learning directly.
